Italy is probably home to the world’s most famous and beloved coffee culture. In Italy, the day begins with the caffelatte, enjoyed with a breakfast treat.

For the ultimate convenience, De’Longhi‘s automatic espresso and cappuccino machines, such as the automatic bean-to-cup machine, will make a perfect caffelatte and many other delicious beverages at the touch of a button, no frothing involved.

However, if you don’t have either of these machines, you can still prepare a caffelatte. Here’s how:

METHOD

Short caffelatte – 8oz

  • For a short caffelatte make one shot (2oz) of espresso coffee with your De’Longhi machine. For a machine with an integrated steam thermometer, choose a De’Longhi Pump Espresso machine.
  • Add 6oz of milk to your jug and place under the steam wand of your machine.
  • Heat the milk to 55-60°C, moving the wand from the top to the bottom of the milk as you heat in order to create a medium froth.
  • Add sugar to taste and stir.
  • Serve in an 8oz glass.

Long caffelatte – 16oz

  • For a long caffelatte use the same method as above but use two shots (4oz) of espresso and 12oz of milk and serve in a taller, 16oz glass.
  • Caffelatte can be enhanced with a variety of flavoured syrups. Choose from vanilla, caramel, chocolate or any other you like, add it to your coffee and stir.
